Apple Cake With Cinnamon And Nutmeg

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 5 tbsp shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • apples, peeled and sliced
  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg twice. Rub in shortening until blended.
  2. 2 Beat egg and milk together. Mix into the dry ingredients to form a dough.
  3. 3 Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and line an oblong baking sheet.
  4. 4 Simmer sliced apples in sugar and water for a few minutes. Arrange apples on the dough.
  5. 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 35 minutes. Baste with syrup at 18 minutes.
  6. 6 Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon 10 minutes before removing from oven.
