Apple Cake With Cinnamon And Nutmeg
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 5 tbsp shortening
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- apples, peeled and sliced
- brown sugar
- cinnamon
Method
- 1 Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg twice. Rub in shortening until blended.
- 2 Beat egg and milk together. Mix into the dry ingredients to form a dough.
- 3 Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and line an oblong baking sheet.
- 4 Simmer sliced apples in sugar and water for a few minutes. Arrange apples on the dough.
- 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 35 minutes. Baste with syrup at 18 minutes.
- 6 Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon 10 minutes before removing from oven.
