Apple And Date Custard

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs apples
  • 1/2 lb dates
  • 3/4 pint milk
  • 1/4 pint cream
  • 6 cloves tied in muslin
  • sugar to taste
  • 3/4 cup water

Method

  1. 1 Pare, core, and chop the apples. Stone the dates.
  2. 2 Stew the fruit with 3/4 cup water and the cloves until tender. Remove cloves.
  3. 3 Rub the cooked fruit through a sieve until smooth.
  4. 4 Gradually mix in boiling milk, then stir in the cream.
  5. 5 Serve cold with sponge cake fingers.
