Apple And Bread Dressing

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter or drippings
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onions
  • 1 quart finely chopped apples
  • 4 cups stale bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 egg, beaten

Method

  1. 1 Melt butter or drippings in a frying pan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook for a few minutes until softened.
  2. 2 Add the finely chopped apples to the pan and cook briefly. Meanwhile, soak the stale bread crumbs in cold water for a few minutes, then drain and press out all excess water.
  3. 3 Add the squeezed bread crumbs to the pan along with the parsley, salt, nutmeg, pepper, and paprika. Stir in the beaten egg.
  4. 4 Mix everything thoroughly and cook until the dressing is heated through and well combined.
