Almond Shortbread Bars
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 4 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup blanched almonds, chopped
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F.
- 2 Cream shortening and sugar; beat in eggs and 3 tablespoons milk.
- 3 Sift flour, baking powder, and salt; mix into creamed mixture.
- 4 Roll dough 1/4-inch thick and cut into 1 by 3-inch bars.
- 5 Brush with egg yolk mixed with 1 tablespoon milk and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
- 6 Bake for 15 minutes.
