Almond Citron Brandy Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 lb blanched chopped almonds
  • 1/4 lb shredded candied citron peel
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 teaspoon powdered mace
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. 1 Cream Crisco and sugar thoroughly together.
  2. 2 Beat in egg yolks one by one.
  3. 3 Add almonds, citron, brandy, mace, flour, baking powder, and salt; mix well.
  4. 4 Fold in egg whites beaten to a stiff froth.
  5. 5 Turn into a papered cake pan and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for one hour.
