Almond Brittle
Ingredients
- 4 cups sugar
- 1 cup Crisco
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups almonds
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Method
- 1 Blanch, split, and bake almonds to golden brown.
- 2 Grease a tin with Crisco and sprinkle almonds on it split side down.
- 3 Dissolve sugar and water in a saucepan, add Crisco, salt, and cream of tartar.
- 4 Boil until brittle (300°F) when tested in cold water.
- 5 Add almond extract and pour over nuts.
- 6 When firm, cut into squares.
